More than treatment, but results!

Shockwave Terhapy introduces a medical device used to teat and relieve the pain associated with soft tissue conditions like tendonitis and heelspur. This innovative Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy System has provided pain relief in up to 90% of the patients treated in European health centers and is now available in select cities within North America.  Unlike other therapies, the low energy Shockwave Treatment does not requre a hospital stay or visit, invasive surgery or anesthesia.

Precision Occupational Medical Group utilizes the following benefits:

  • Physician Office Based Treatments
  • No Anesthesia Required
  • Short Treatment Time (10-15 min.)
  • No Recovery Time
  • Immediate Results
  • Over 20 Locations in Southern California

Indications

Millions of people suffer from pain caused by inflammation of tendons and other soft tissues attached to bones. ESWT has been used effectively worldwide to treat conditions.  ESWT has also been used to treat bone pathologies such as Delayed-Union and Non Union Fractures - conditions where broker bones do not properly heal back together.

Most doctors will first pursue conservative treatment options to reduce or eliminate pain. Conservative treatment may include such measures as rest, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs), steroid injections, over the counter pain relievers, physical therapy, and shoe inserts (for heel pain). When pain has been persistent conservative treatment has failed, ESWT is increasingly bein used to avoid chronic pain and traditional invasive surgery.

Treatment Details

There are two main typesof shockwave machines, low and high energy. High-energy treatments are administered nt he operating room with regional or general anesthesia. Low-energy rehabilitation treatments are administered in the clinic and do not require anesthesia or injections. Precision Occupational Medical Group, Inc. currently uses a low-energy machine. A skin gel is applied to the teatment area to allow the shockwave to be introduced into the body. A technician places the probe on the area of greatest tenderness. The shockwaves are delivered of 10-15 minues with NO anesthesia required.  Occasionally, patients will relate mild transient discomfort at the treatment site. Patients are usually teated with 3-5 sessions separated by 1-2 weeks.  Between treatments, patients are able to perform all normal daily activities. Some patients report immediate pain relief but the healing response usually requires 6-8 weeks. Early results are encouraging and research continues at multiple sites around the country.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)

A Non-Invasive Breakthrough Solution!

Extracorporeal Shockwave Treatment (ESWT) is a non-invasive (no incisions) treatment that involves the delivery of acoustical energy, or sound waves, to affected areas of the:

  • Plantar Fasciitis (Foot)
  • Rotator Cuff Syndrome
  • Bursitis (Shoulder, Hip, Knee)
  • Trigger Finger (Thumb)
  • Bone Spurs
  • Joint Pain
  • Calcium Deposits
  • Elbow Pain
  • Heel Pain
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
  • Golfers Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
  • Knee Pain (Patellar Tendonitis)
  • Tendonitis (Shoulder, Hip, Wrist, Ankle)
  • Calcifying Tendonitis of the Shoulder

What is Extracorporeal Shockwave Treatment?

A clinical shockwave is nothing more than a sonic pulse, much like an airplane breaking the sound barrier.  Extracorporeal Shockwave Treatment (extracorporeal meaning "outside the body") is a safe an effective treatment option.   The first medical treatment utilized shockwaves to dissolve kidney stones without surgery intervention.  Today over 98% of all kidney stones are treated with Shocwave Therapy.  No studies have reported any significant side effects when utilized for orthopedic conditions.  The use of shockwave to treat tendon injury began in the earl 1990's and was approved in the United States by the FDA for treatment of Plantar Fasciitis in 2000 and for Lateral Epicondylitis in 2003.

ESWT Low Energy Shockwave Therapy Treatment uses sound waves to break up swelling, scar tissue, and calcium deposits. It increases the circulation in the area to promote healing. Normal duration and frequency is only 3 teatments per diagnoses are. (Every two weeks)

How Does It Work?

The widely accespted theory is that ESWT causes microtrauma and controlled injury at the affected area, thereby leading to the formation of blood vessels (revascularization) which triggers the body's natural healing process and repair mechanisms. Studies have shown an 80% and higher success rate in significantly reducing or eliminating pain.

Is This Teatment Right for Everyone?

You should speak to your doctor about your specific medical condition to see if ESWT is right for you. ESWT is not recommended for use on pregnant women, children, anyone with a pacemaker or anyone on on anti-coagulant therapy or who has a history of bleeding problems.
